4th Substance and Style Awards Kick-off Party Washington Life and Saks Fifth Avenue hosted a party chaired by child
advocate Debbie Sigmund at IndeBleu to kick off the fourth Annual Men
and Women of Substance and Style Awards on January 25. Over 250
guests nibbled on savory hors d’oeuvres from IndeBleu’s acclaimed menu
of Indian-infused French cuisine and sipped signature cocktails from the
Metro-themed cocktail “map” while lounging on curved mattresses that arch
into the ceiling. The Substance and Style awards are presented to eight
men and women who exemplify a personal commitment to the Washington
and/or global community. This year’s awards will benefit Wired Kids, Inc.
(wiredkids.org), which works worldwide to create awareness about child
sexual exploitation, child pornography and Internet sexual predators. More
recently, the organization is helping to alleviate the orphan crisis in countries
hit by the recent tsunami.
Lisa Gordon-Hagerty will chair this year’s awards on April 4 at Saks Fifth
Avenue, Chevy Chase. The winners will be featured in the April 2005 issue
of Washington Life. Past winners include Art Monk, Marcus Johnson, Mary
Ourisman and Rep. Steny Hoyer, among others.
