PROFILE : BRIAN WOLFF

Brian Wolff serves as deputy executive director in charge of finance at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) and as House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi's political director. He has raised record sums to distribute to House Democratic candidates from around the country. A native of Little Rock, Arkansas, Wolff previously worked for CNN and “Larry King Live” before joining the staff of Senator David H. Pryor. Wolff then worked on President Bill Clinton's 1992 and 1996 campaigns, and assisted Senator Hilary Clinton on her campaign for Senate in 2000. Wolff is “motivated by the dedicated families that put their lives on hold for year-long campaigns to make a difference in their communities.”

Whom do you most admire, living or dead?
Bill Clinton . He is the most brilliant communicator of our generation. . . the Democrat most feared by Republicans for good reason— period.

What is your favorite escape from Washington?
Bolinas, California. It's on the Marin coast. . . truly God's country.

If you hadn't gone into politics, what would you be doing?
Luckily, I found a community I love and work that's satisfying, but if I had to choose something else, I imagine a dream job would be a comedy writer for Letterman or Jon Stewart.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Working for the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi. . . but only if I can hire another 200 people to help keep up with her.

Whom has most impressed you?
My adoptive California mother, Susie Tompkins Buell. She is a producer, the former owner/founder of Espirit de Corp. and a tireless fighter for Democratic causes. She's a real star!

Why are you a Democrat?
Community. I believe that being responsible for one's fellow man and empowering its citizens to take care of themselves is what this country is all about.

In one sentence, what is the future of the Democratic Party?
The future is very bright for the Democratic Party. I hear the drum beat of discontent as I travel across America. People want to take their country back. They expect government to work for their community. History has a way of correcting itself.
