The 15th Annual Rock the Vote
Awards were held for the fi rst
time in Washington at the
National Building Museum,
ne' ing over $300,000 to
promote civil engagement by
many young people on both
sides of the political aisle. §

ROCKIN’'GOOD'TIME:
Washington Life hosted a VIP
cocktail hour with co-chairs
Jack Kemp and Terry McAuliff e
and “American Idol” judge
Randy Jackson, singer Mya
and Rep. Mary Bono, amon
others. Guests dined familystyle
on burgers, pulled pork
and egg salad while “Funk
Master McCain,” be' er known
as Sen. John McCain, and
Sen. Barack Obama accepted
awards. The energetic Black
Eyed Peas musicians were also
honored. §
SHINING'STAR:
A
lively performance of “Shining
Star” from Urban Nation, led
by Rickey Peyton, had guests
dancing in their chairs. Urban
Nation is D.C.’s best known
youth hip hop choir that
eff ortlessly blends a mix of
gospel, spiritual, jazz and folk.
