The 80th Running of the Gold Cup
Washington’s Kentucky Derby

Gorgeous weather drew over 50,000 people to the 80th running of the Virginia Gold Cup on May 7th. Spectators, wearing their best “hunt country” tweeds, sundresses and seersucker suits, enjoyed mint juleps, shrimp cocktail, smoked salmon and strawberries and partied in tents along the raceway, wagering on the horses as they thundered by.
