At so many fundraisers, the cause gets ignored in favor of discourse about who’s wearing what and what food is being served. But at the Plastic Pollution Coalition event at Muleh, as disturbing facts and images regarding the harmful effects of plastic were projected against the wall, guests couldn’t help but discuss the issue at hand. Roshanak Ameli-Tehrani, Julia Cohen, and others from the host committee mingled with guests, thoroughly answering any questions they had.

As the band played (volunteering their time in an effort to help the cause), everyone enjoyed vegetable appetizers with white wine and champagne. Muleh was the perfect setting for this cocktail hour, as the furniture and clothing store exuded a chic yet laid-back vibe. Muleh’s owner Christopher Reiter and his family were extremely welcoming to the guests.

Though the damage plastic has done to the environment could set an unhappy mood for a cocktail party, the emphasis on what could be done to help gave an uplifting tone to the evening.
