In a city where power is everything, it can be an arduous task to select the 100 names who rise to the top. But for the eighth year, Washington Life is recognizing the individuals from a wide variety of professional fields, from K Street lawyers and lobbyists to media mavens, former politicos turned activists, cultural leaders and even a sports star. As always, those that draw a government salary are excluded from the list, focusing instead on the power players who have shaped legislative and judicial politics from the outside.

Those that are intimately familiar with the list will notice that nearly 50 percent of our listees are new this year, from the man with “the scoop of the year,” David Corn, to one of the most recognizable radio voices of our time, Kojo Nnamdi. These newcomers have all proven that they have the ability to shape the environments in which they interact.
