Winners of the Men and Women of Substance & Style Awards It is with great pleasure that we proudly announce the 2004 winners of the Saks Fifth Avenue and Washington Life Substance & Style Awards. This year's 12 recipients were selected from nominations submitted by members of the community from all over the Metropolitan Area. They were chosen for their outstanding and selfless gifts, in the form of time, energy, and support, to better our community and mankind. Evidenced by the diversity of our winners, good deeds come in many forms. Some have founded or are heading nonprofit groups, others have created networking organizations to further the careers of minority businesspeople, still others have invested financially in making our cultural and art institutions world-renowned. What they all have in common is making Washington a better place to live. It is in their spirit of giving that Washington Life and Saks Fifth Avenue choose a charity to benefit each year, as we honor these twelve exceptional men and women. This year we are proud to support the Hoop Dreams Scholarship Fund, for which we hope to raise over $100,000 on the evening of April 4 th .
