“Taia Peace Foundation (“Taia Peace”), the charitable arm of Taia, LLC, was formed in 2007 with a focus on Sierra Leone and with a single aim: to assist rural communities in overcoming the so-called “resource curse,” said Wright who is a driving force behind the organization. They are currently raising funds to develop a road that will help provide much needed infrastructure development to a rural village in Sierra Leone – one of the poorest countries on Earth.
“Do what ever you can to support this cause. Let’s build this road. Let’s build roads to every continent, to every soul in this world,” said Maxwell to the well-heeled afternoon attendees.
“The isn’t a one-way street,” Wright told Washington Life, “We have a lot to offer Africa, but Africa has a lot to offer the US. Caterpillar company is going to build this road. This is a way for our countries to exchange culturally and economically.”
The crowd included Deputy Assistant Secretary Cheryl Benton, Jamal Simmons, Michael Hines, Cynne Simpson, Minyon Moore, Nigel Stephens, Joyce Brayboy, Nicole Venable, Darren Peters, Aba Bonney Kwawu, Aisha McClendon, and Tony Haywood, among others.
