Slightly worryingly for some of us, purchasing art has never been so easy, especially after a couple of glasses of champagne! With each guest presented with a bidding number upon arrival, the auction closed at 9pm, enabling guests to carry their winnings home with them that evening. With the gallery spaces full to the brim with works from local artists Transformers aim to present artists with a focus to ‘build audiences for their work and advance their careers’ proved itself. With many artists in attendance it enabled potential owners a unique opportunity to discuss each piece with its creator before signing on the dotted line.

The Mexican Cultural Institute mansion on 16th Street gave grandeur to the event with their Diego Rivera style murals covering the walls of the imposing staircase contrasted with the contemporary artworks for sale, each punctuating the vast floor space. “Amazing crowd, amazing art” commented artist and Transformer Board member, Izette Folger. From humorous Segway sculptures to more traditional oil paintings, there was something to satisfy everyone’s artistic pallet (and wallet).
