Just as each fireman is needed to pass along the bucket in a fire brigade, the donors, truck drivers, grocery-baggers and everyone in between makes ALIVE’s last-Saturday food distribution program work. If anyone steps out, the chain is broken.

It’s the last Friday evening in January. Trucks from the Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB) arrive at the Cora Kelly Recreation Center, the Ladrey Senior Residence and the Church of the Resurrection in Alexandria with pallets of cans, bags and boxes of food. Volunteers from the Alexandrians Involved Ecumenically (ALIVE!) offload the trucks and stack the pallets inside the centers for ALIVE’s last-Saturday food distribution program for Alexandria’s underserved.
