US Senator Roland Burris celebrates a life of trailblazing accomplishments.
By Adoria Doucette
At the pinnacle of a distinguished career of public service that has often been highlighted by the terms “first” and “only”, US Senator Roland Burris celebrated his 73rd birthday on August 3rd with well wishes from dozens of staffers on Capitol Hill and several of his colleagues including Virginia Senator Mark Warner.
Roland Burris was the first African American bank examiner for the Treasury Department, the first African American elected to state wide office in Illinois, the only African American to serve as both State Attorney General and State Comptroller, and is currently the only African American member of the United States Senate. The Senate being the world’s most exclusive club and the most powerful deliberative body in world government, Power Source salutes Roland Burris for his humility and passion often in the face of feverish adversity during his past two years in Washington, we thank him for work that has been nothing short of remarkable. Happy Birthday Senator!
