With wind chills in the high teens, it is only appropriate that fashionistas from around the world congregate at Lincoln Center in NYC for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2011.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is always an exciting time for fashion enthusiasts in and out of the industry. We all clamor for a glimpse of what the trends will be for the next season.
With temperatures as chilly as they are, I couldn’t help but wish that I could literally take the runway home with me. Of the collections I saw today – Nicholas K, BCBG, Luca Luca, and Christian Siriano – Luca Luca was by far my favorite. With blacks and neutrals being the typical palette for the Fall, it was so refreshing to see a collection that embraced color. The pieces were wearable yet whimsical and soft yet bold all at the same time.
On the contrary, Project Runway’s Christian Siriano presented a primarily black collection. Despite the uniform color, the collection still had the designer’s “fierce” signature and piece after piece left you wanting more. As Christian always does, he made sure to give us over-the-top and dramatic pieces that are not necessarily ready-to-wear but give our fashion hearts a reason to be content.
Nicholas K and BCBG gave two different presentations but each was fun in its own way.
I loved Nicholas’ play on the layered look and I really enjoyed BCBG’s easy, breezy aesthetic and classic accessories.
Day 1 has set a nice bar for the remaining collections. Compared to the Spring, there is pep in the fashion step and an air of rejuvenation. While Fall tends to lend itself to a gloomier mood, so far it is looking very exciting.
