“Our goal is that everyone says, ‘You’re not going to believe what I saw at The Fillmore last night!” – General Manager, Stephanie Steele, on the opening of The Fillmore Silver Spring.

The original Fillmore was a San Francisco dancehall founded in 1912 that was later made famous as a live music venue by promoter, Bill Graham in the 1960’s.  The venue has hosted a diverse selection of musicians throughout its years, including The Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, Miles Davis, Aretha Franklin as well as comedians, poets, and a number of other artists.  Since its founding, new locations of The Fillmore have taken root in Denver, Detroit, Miami, and Charlotte.  On September 15, LiveNation will open the doors to The Fillmore’s newest location in the burgeoning music and entertainment city of Silver Spring.  What was once the location of a JC Penney store is now the 23,000 square foot space of the newest Fillmore.  Like the Fillmore District, where the original Fillmore was founded, downtown Silver Spring is a melting pot of culture.

Silver Spring is the perfect location for The Fillmore; with a diverse and engaged community, it is the ideal environment for The Fillmore to thrive and to serve as a touch stone for all locals,” said general manager, Stephanie Steele.

As characteristic of all Fillmore branches, the Silver Spring location will be decorated with crystal chandeliers, red walls covered with vintage posters of national and live performances, and other touches unique to the Fillmore brand.

The new music house is much anticipated and hopes to be a resource to the community as well as the new hot spot for live music and entertainment in downtown Silver Spring.

“We will bring a community-focused venue that is accessible to everyone,” Steele said. with events ranging from top names in entertainment, emerging artists and even local graduations. We’ll bring audiences to the community that will help support the growth of Silver Spring and reinforce its identity as an arts and entertainment destination.”

The Fillmore Silver Spring is located at 8656 Colesville Road, Silver Spring, MD 20910, and will open its doors on September 15th with a concert by R&B great, Mary J. Blige.  For more information on concerts visit http://www.fillmoresilverspring.com/index.
