Wicked: the untold story of the witches of Oz.

American Idol Live!

If you tuned in last season, you’ll want to be there when Scott McCreery, Lauren Alaina and others from the show’s 10th season perform. See them on Friday, Aug. 19 at 7 PM at the Verizon Center. Tickets range from $45-65.

The DC Scoop

Who makes the best ice cream in town? It’s hard to say without first obtaining all of the cold facts, which is a big part of this juried ice cream tasting competition. More than a dozen contestants, including Dolcezza Gelato, Coppi’s and Dolci Gelati will be offering up free scoops. All you have to do is come with your sweet tooth and vote for your favorite on Saturday, Aug. 20 from 1-4 PM at Union Market (Sixth Street NE and Florida Avenue). The event also features live music and entertainment, an ice cream-eating contest and children’s activities.

DC Restaurant Week

The District’s best restaurants offer three-course meals at discounted prices. The cost of lunch is $20.11 and dinner $35.11. Choose from a number of restaurants such as Acadiana, Bibiana, Cafe Milano, Rasika, 1789, Zaytinya, and more! Be sure to make a reservation here. Enjoy the last few days of this great week.

Wicked

It’s your last weekend to check out Wicked, “the best musical of the decade,” at the Kennedy Center. Ticket prices range from $37-$250.

Quick summary: Long before that girl from Kansas arrives in Munchkinland, two girls meet in the land of Oz. One–born with emerald green skin–is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. How these two grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good makes for “the most complete and completely satisfying new musical in a long time.”

Fashion Camp

For Brightest Young Things’ latest Capitol Skyline pool party, they’re turning the reins over to their sister site BYGays. Fashion Camp features a swimsuit competition, a “not eating contest” in lieu of the usual hot dog-eating contest (though the $15 ticket does include a free burger), performances and music spun by the Mixtape DJs. And there are plenty of inflatable objects in the pool and chairs on the deck to drape yourself over. Swimsuits, burgers and lounging by the pool begins on Saturday, Aug. 20 from noon till 8 PM at Capitol Skyline Hotel (10 I Street SW, Washington, DC). Tickets are $15.
