Washington’s fashionable diplomatic corps ventured to the Turkish Embassy recently to view Nedret Taciroglu’s newest collection, “One Rug, Thousands of Words.” The prominent guest list featured a local and global who’s who, including Hunter and Kathleen Biden, Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn, Congressman Ed Whitfield and his wife Connie, Douglas Glanser, Attorney General of Maryland, several members from the State Department, and ambassadors from Costa Rica, Singapore, Cape Verde, Bahrain, and Bulgaria.
“The rugs are historical treasures which offer us invaluable hints from the societies that produced them,” praised Ambassador Tan. “With her collection, Mrs. Taciroglu is making her own contemporary contribution to cherish this wonderful historical tradition. That’s why I congratulate her for not only being an innovative designer, but for being one with a cultural connection to the past.
”
Taciroglu graduated with an Interior Design Degree from one of the most prestigious fine arts universities in Turkey, Mimar Sinan University. Her career roots expanded after she graduated when she invested in her own company to design garments for clients the world over.
She counts former first lady Nancy Reagan among her clientèle. She created an eighteen-piece winter collection for Mrs Reagan.
Taciroglu also designs home accessories and glassware.
Her latest collection on view at the home of the Turkish ambassador was a continuation of her previous designs steeped in Turkish and Anatolian themes, including motifs and warm colors used in traditional Turkish carpets.
