Jean-Marie Fernandez shines at the Butterfly Bash in Stella McCartney.

Here at Washington Life we see more than our fair share of party guests and their sartorial choices. Each week, we will feature our favorite “Best Dressed Guest” from recent events we have photographed and share a few words of advice from the well-groomed Washingtonian.
Jean-Marie Fernandez is no stranger to dressing the part for any ball, gala or party. Twenty years in Washington, plus her position as president of the Fernandez Foundation, has taught her how to dress for success with her own personal style. Spot Fernandez at soirees around town and you’ll catch her in anything from hot pink ruched ballgowns to a-line leather frocks and flirty sundresses. No matter the event, Fernandez appears coiffed and classic with an unexpected flair, making her the perfect choice for our inaugural “Best Dressed Guest.”
At the Fair Chance Butterfly Bash, of which she was an Honorary Chairman, Fernandez donned a stunning cobalt and black Stella McCartney knee-length dress and her go-to Gucci pumps.
“I adore Stella McCartney’s designs [as] they are very flattering and comfortable to wear,” says Fernandez.
We were drawn both to the cut of the dress, highlighting Fernandez’s toned arms, and the on-trend Baroque pattern. And we never say no to a good pair of Gucci heels.
Her sparkling accessories included a Chanel clutch, classic Tiffany & Co. diamond earrings, an oversized Cartier watch and two Cartier Love bracelets in gold and silver.
As for choosing a killer party outfit, the most important thing is to “trust your instincts,” says Fernandez. “Trends come and go, and if a little voice inside your head says ‘no,’ or you hesitate, don’t wear it.”
