Full name: Buki Peters
Age: 28
Occupation: Fashion designer (Brand: OLUBUKUNMI & blog) and educator
Briefly describe your style: Androgynous classics with a textured feminine twist
Favorite designer/brand, both past and present: DKNY, Alexander McQueen for his ingenuity and Yoji Yamamoto for his excellent draping. Olubukunmi (myself)
Article of clothing you can’t live without: A fitted blazer, the one item that pulls together any outfit.
I would never wear: One word — Crocs!
Worst fashion faux pas: Not taking out the pleats on a jacket or a skirt and wearing it with the basting stitch. I make it my duty to politely tell people everywhere when I spot it. I have spoken to people on subways, weddings and at work. It makes all the difference.
Style in Washington, DC is: Evolving into greatness
A trend you can’t wait to try: Animal-print clothing, but I may have to start with an accessory such as a zebra-print scarf first.
A trend you can do without: Leggings as pants. Uhm, no thanks!
Admit it, have you ever worn sneakers and a dress/skirt? I absolutely can not live without my Converse sneakers so yes, I proudly style my All Stars with summer dresses and dainty skirts but never running sneakers!
You’ve overslept, but still need to look fresh and fabulous. What is your go-to quick outfit? A dress that is fitted at the waist with a belt, a blazer, pumps and a colorful scarf.
