Becoming J.Lo

An elegant, lavish wedding … where the kids pick the cake (chocolate).

JENNIFER MILLARD AND RYAN LOPEZ

When Jennifer Millard married Ryan Lopez, a director at Cushman & Wakefield – and became Jennifer Lopez – the wedding took on some J.Lo sass and sizzle. Millard, a mother of three, took the white carpet by storm. Proving her intent, the DC-area native converted to Catholicism, was confirmed less than a week before the wedding and solemnly pledged her faith and fidelity at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in a stunning, V-neck, semi-sheer Oscar de la Renta gown with floral embroidery that may have made the priest sweat just a little.

Millard’s daughters Bentley, age 8 and Dylan, 5, in “super poofy tulle dresses” assumed the role as maids of honor.  The girls googled the hairstyles they wanted, got the “tiniest bit” of makeup done and even watched videos of Mary Kate and Ashley Olson as young flower girls to imitate how they would place the flowers down the aisle.  Her son Winnie, 6, was on “ring security” duty.

“[Ryan] is the most honest man I’ve ever met and I don’t have much of a filter so it just works for us,” says Millard.  “One of the reasons I fell in love with Jen is because of how passionate she is about her role as a mother. I was attracted to her independence and just her overall toughness,” says Lopez.

Kristin Cecchi (second from left), Millard’s friend, gave her toast by singing her entire speech to the tune of the song, “Jenny from the Block.”

The official wedding color palate was blush, quartz, rose gold, velvet pink, greige, gold, chartreuse, marble, and champagne. “Seriously!” says Millard.  Flowers were by Amaryllis Floral and Event Design. The couple’s sugary dessert emporium was inspired by Dylan’s Candy Bar in New York.

Millard’s children taste tested the cakes .. “I never imagined I would have a chocolate wedding cake but it was the clear favorite!” says Millard. “There were a bunch of tiny hands and forks all trying to get in on the cake cutting action,” said Lopez.  RIGHT: colorful wedding reception cocktails.

Millard’s daughter and other guests struck a smile on the J.LO step-and-repeat photobooth backdrop, in a nod to the bride’s new name, Jennifer Lopez.
