Just months after Conrad Hotels & Resorts opened up its first property in Washington, D.C. – a 360-room, sleek hotel in City Center – another “urban oasis” property opened in Manhattan’s Midtown.
Now three years old, the global luxury hotel brand’s second property in New York, at 151 West 54th Street (the other is downtown near Carnegie Hall), continues to exude a calm, yet comfortable elegance for those on their post-lockdowns traveling frenzy.
With a fresh, jewel-tone color palette, herringbone wood floors, Carrera marble bathrooms, and sweeping skyline views, the hotel masters style and spaciousness. Suits range from 500-square-feet –which for Manhattan travelers can feel palatial – to 3,000 square-feet in the penthouse. Separate living and sleeping areas, with 55-inch HDTV, stocked mini-bar, and espresso machine, make Conrad an especially sound choice for families, especially those tired after shopping (Fifth Avenue), shows (see “Plaza Suite”) and concerts (at Radio City Music Hall!).
Beyond the size of the rooms themselves is the location, with Central Park, Broadway and Times Square a short walk away. While check-in at Conrad required an extended wait time, the arrival experience still inspired conversation, with a lifelike sculpture of a woman in a bathing suit and swim cap reclined on a large inflatable pool swan, by artist Carole Feuerman. Yes, the kids will undoubtedly reach out and touch (right before taking the elevator up and jumping on the beds).
