The Dish: Bayou Bakery Opens in Arlington

A taste of New Orleans opens in Arlington, bringing with it chicory coffee and beignets.

There’s something about a beignet that I can’t resist. The menu at the recently opened Bayou Bakery in the Courthouse neighborhood of Arlington describes them as “the doughnut of New Orleans”. Covered in powdered sugar, hand made fresh from scratch each day, the signature item of David Guas‘ new eat place.

The bakery title doesn’t do justice to a robust menu of southern staples like andouille sausage, gumbo and deviled eggs.

The restaurant serves breakfast items from open til 11 a.m. and then switches over to sandwiches and soups from 11:30-2:30 p.m., opens up dinner specials from 5 p.

m. until close. Sweets are served from 11 on, but never fear, the beignet counts as a breakfast item.

Pair it with Counter Culture coffee, or a tangy bayou lemonade. At night Bayou Bakery serves up beers alongside white, red, sweet and bubbly wines, and would make a perfect first date place. “Our audience is everyone, that guy out there on the street,” says Guas.

“Come as you are.” Tables and booths line the front of the shop, and comfy couches and mason jar lights hang in the cozy back area. WiFi internet is available for use for those of you who want to cozy up to some hot chocolate or hot apple cider and relax in a big comfy chair.

Bayou Bakery is located at 1515 Courthouse Road near the Courthouse Metro Station.
