The Sackler Gallery opens its doors late for a night of Chinese infused fashion and history.
From style to food, music to photos, guests at the Dress to Empress event at the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, 1050 Independence Ave. SW, may have felt like they stepped foot in China.
The night showcased some of China’s unique culture with live paper-cutting, a fashion show featuring designs from Yeohlee Teng, a world-renowed fashion designer from Malaysia, and access to the gallery’s photographs of the Empress Dowager in the exhibition Drama and Diplomacy: The Empress Dowager’s self-representation. Not to be out done by the infamous diva Dowager, guests took turns getting their “empress on” in the Chinese Costume Photo Studio giving Empress Cixi a run for her money. Guest could also learn more about Empress Cixi during a gallery talk from Daisy Wang, a project manager for Chinese art. The night drew a young and hip crowd of fashionable Washingtonians.
