David McCullough Talks the “The Wright Brothers” at the Hay-Adams
Two-time Pulitzer Prize winner David McCullough discussed his newest work, “The Wright Brothers” before a sold-out crowd at The Hay-Adams Hotel’s Author Series on May 12.
The author, who’s never considered himself a historian, but “a writer who happens to write about people who really live,” shared his thoughts on the early days of The Wright Brothers and described their purpose as “larger than them,” as well as their repeated failures.
The Hay-Adams Author Series is the recreation and celebration of a literary tradition that began in the late 1800s.
John Hay and Henry Adams’ homes were once located on the site of the now Hay-Adams hotel, and their residences were considered the center of Washington, D.C.’s intellectual and social gathering.
Since 2005, the Hay-Adams has hosted outstanding writers on its rooftop venue, Top of the Hay, which overlooks the White House.
