What to Expect: On April 27, 2010 the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies will celebrate its 40th anniversary at The Ritz- Carlton, Washington, DC. The 40th Anniversary Gala will bring together over 750 elected officials from across the country, civil rights visionaries, business leaders, media representatives, community activists and other dignitaries to celebrate the success and work of the Joint Center. The event will also pay tribute to those who have furthered the cause of justice and equality for all Americans.
The highlight of the Gala will be the presentation of the Louis E. Martin Great American Award to an individual who has been an exemplar of change, progress and coalition building across racial lines. Past award recipients include: Dr.
Dorothy I. Height (2009), Congressmen James E. Clyburn (2008) and Charles B. Rangel (2007), President William J.
Clinton (2006), Muhammad Ali (2005), Vernon E. Jordan (2004), and President Jimmy Carter (2003).
For 40 years, the Joint Center has informed and influenced public opinion and policy making for not only African Americans, but every American.
The funds raised from the Gala will generate essential financial support to expand and enhance the Joint Center’s programs and research in critical policy areas such as the economy, health care, climate change, communications technology and governance.
