For the series, she packs her paint, a page from The Washington Post, and sets up shop in various locations around town. She looks left, looks right and paints what she sees, allowing herself to be inspired by what is around her. “I am a visual reporter recording real life in the District [of Columbia] on the widest reaching periodical in the area,” she said of the project. “I am a primary source for information and so I have gessoed [plastered] The Washington Post and spattered it with primary colors to denote this truth.” The materials that she creates her work on have an intimate connection with the piece.

Her system for creation includes the first layer, which is the topic sentence and directs the viewer into the work. The second layer is defined by color and follows the subject depicted and the expressive lines. The final layer is the title. Her paintings are full of confident colors, intrepid strokes and personal narratives.

This unique evening will combine her REAL Life Drawing: My Eye on Washington D.C. series and a performance by Virginia’s own alternative rock band, “Big Green Cherry”, an eclectic alternative rock band that promotes a message of peace, sustainability and respect for the earth.

Don’t miss this unique pairing of art and music!
