This past week, Fortune Most Powerful Women had its summit at the Mandarin Oriental in D.C., featuring the most prominent women in our society… as well as celebrity trainer, James D’Silva, who promoted his fitness DVDs with Trudie Styler.

D’Silva has been an innovative leader in fitness and exercise to clients all over the world, including famous celebs Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow. Born and raised in Goa, India, D’Silva later moved to England where he trained in classical and contemporary dance. He soon started performing, choreographing, and teaching all over Europe and the United States.“I did professional dancing for enjoyment. I loved creating images on stage, but it was time to move on to something else; I can’t be poor anymore,” he laughed. Which is why D’Silva got into fitness and exercise. “There came a time in my life where I could make a difference, I really love working with people; I love to see the change.”

D’Silva’s philosophy for fitness focuses on changing up the exercise routine but staying consistent. His method of exercise strengthens and tones muscles, increases flexibility, and improves structural fitness. Yoga, Pilates, dance, and body movement, are the main techniques that he uses in his regimen.

“When exercising, don’t shock the body, always bring it up a notch; bring your mind into the whole process of exercise, balance and coordination. You have to enjoy it,” says the fitness guru. He believes in constantly changing the way you move when working out to keep you on your toes.  He claims, “Everyone’s body is built differently architecturally, which is why there is no use in working someone beyond their means.”

So how can we look like his celebrity clients, Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow, you might ask? “Set aside some time everyday, an hour, to workout and concentrate on your body. Don’t give up!” he says.

D’Silva has a studio in London where he trains his clients. He recently created exercise DVDs with Sting’s wife, Trudie Styler, that focus on weight loss, yoga, movement, and being health conscious. He has also created a new fitness machine, The GARUDA, named after the mythical bird-like figure that appears in Hindu and Buddhist mythology. “The GARUDA combines the movements of the Pilates reformer and Cadillac, allowing various exercising options,” D’Silva states.

D’Silva is currently traveling around the globe promoting the new DVDs as well as training fitness teachers on how to use his method of exercise. The GARUDA is expected to launch in 2011.
