“Nobody does crawfish the way we do it in southern Louisiana, and nobody does southern Louisiana cooking the way we do it at The Cajun Experience!”

Some of the delicious goods at the Cajun Experience.

Stirring some southern cooking.

Authentic cajun restaurant, Cajun Experience, introduces new Executive Chef Thomas Schoborg, as well as a brand new and distinctly Cajun happy-hour menu, boasting rich and exotic flavors straight from the Louisiana Bayou.

Cajun Experience sits on the cusp of the trendy Adams Morgan and Dupont Circle neighborhoods. Its central location just off the Adams Morgan 18th Street corridor, booming with new and established boutiques and bars, adds some Southern Louisiana flare to the traditionally Hispanic neighborhood.

The new happy-hour menu features an extensive selection of New Orleans Abita beers and signature southern cocktails like Hurricanes and Sazeracs. Patrons can also munch on happy-hour food specials with traditional Southern specialties like blackened or fried frog legs with remoulade dipping sauce, Gator & Crawfish Sliders served with spicy chipotle mayo, Cajun Nachos served with homemade crisp potato chips and the signature Swamp Basket, comprised of blackened frog legs, blackened gator bites and fried crawfish.

The complete dining menu boasts Cajun classics such as overstuffed poboys, traditional beignets and crawfish etouffee, a Southern Louisiana staple similar to gumbo. The etouffee is traditionally made from crawfish and borrows its name from the French word, “smothered.” During crawfish season in May and June, the restaurant hosts all-you-can-eat crawfish boils every Saturday from 12-4 p.m.

Interesting tip: the best time to eat crawfish is now. The reason for this is that the larger crawfish stay tucked deep in their holes in the farms of Louisiana, growing and feeding on the water and critters above them till they are nice and fat. Hence, the crawfish at the end of the season have been feeding longer, so they are big and juicy.

Cajun Experience is located at 1825 18th Street, NW, Washington, DC. For more information, please visit their website: www.cajunexperience.biz or call 202.558.9230.
