Masha Casey keeps it classic in a stellar Max and Cleo black gown for Capital City Ball.

Here at Washington Life we see more than our fair share of party guests and their sartorial choices. Each week, we will feature our favorite “Best Dressed Guest” from recent events we have photographed and share a few words of advice from the well-groomed Washingtonian.
We are major fans of color, sparkle and all that jazz at WL, but there is something to be said for a classic, black ball gown-particularly when attending a black tie affair. For architectural designer Masha Casey, this year marked her first appearance at the
Capital City Ball in the 18 years that she has resided in Washington, and she wanted to feel elegant. We’d say she hit a home run with her Max and Cleo by BCBG floor-length gown. Casey paired her gown with emerald green BCBG heels for “a pop of color,” a glittery BCBG ring, gifted earrings and a vintage bracelet from her mother. Even her hair and makeup were clean and simple, right down to her french tips.
“You can never go wrong with classic elegance,” says Casey.
When dressing for evenings out in the District, Casey subscribes to the beliefs of fashion goddesses Marilyn Monroe and Coco Chanel and focuses on shoes and simplicity.
“As Marilyn Monroe would say, ‘give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world,'” says Casey. “I definitely felt like I could do anything in my satiny pumps.”
We loved that Casey went with a classic color scheme and silhouette, but added a modern touch with the cut and lace of the neckline. It gave her an Anna-Karenina-of-today look. Plus, there’s red lipstick involved, which we are always on board with.
