From paying our college tuition, putting up with our years of teenage attitude, or simply just being who they are, dads have done so much to add to the debt of gratitude we owe.  With Father’s Day just around the corner, you may be wondering what you can do that would get even close to paying him back.  As impossible as it may seem, the debt can easily be repaid right here in D.C.  Just follow some of these simple suggestions and you will have a D.C. Father’s Day to remember.

Party it up

This Friday, June 17th, experience a “Bar Takeover,” for regular bar prices, with Jeremy Ross at Gold Cup Wine Bar, or treat your dad to a mixology class with Ross, Saturday, June 18th.  Learn how to create cocktails using bitters, shrubs and syrups to create wow-worthy drink rims and party-perfect garnishes in Salamander Resort & Spa’s signature Cooking Studio, for just 65 dollars or more.  Guests can also meet with experts offering tastings and education regarding the creation of key ingredients.  Those who partake in the entire experience will end their evening with a five course, cocktail-paired dinner curated by Ross, for 200 dollars or more.

Take the man zip lining and give the man a drink, for crying out loud!

What could be more perfect than a free beer for your Father’s Day?  Sunday, June 19th, enjoy a free beer with the purchase of a Tree Top Zip Tour in Salamander Resort & Spa’s Gold Cup bar.  All tours Saturday and Sunday Father’s Day weekend are 164 dollars per person.

Think spa days are only for moms?  Think again.

If spa days are only for moms, then maybe spa months are the exception for dads.  Celebrate your dad at the Salamander Spa all month long.  This June, book a 50-minute or longer massage for him and receive a complimentary massage enhancement or enjoy 20 percent off to experience the 60-minute Organic Male Regimen Facial.

Or if the spa day is not his thing…

Dads ride 50 percent off throughout June for Countryside Trail Rides at the Salamander Resort! Treat dad to the natural beauty of Virginia’s countryside while meandering through the woods and fields at a leisurely walk. Rides run approximately one hour daily starting at 10 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m for ages ten & up, for 135 dollars per person.

Nothing Beats Quality Time with Dad

Take your dad to the “Guy’s Day Out” event at the Salamander Resort where dads get 50 percent off an Archery Class or the three different Fishing programs.  He can pick between the “On the Hunt Fishing,” “Full Introduction Fishing Class” and “Beginner Fisherman” classes offered on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Father’s Day weekend.

He can’t complain about a gift you made with your bare hands.

“#1 Dad” magnets can be made at the resort at 2-3 p.m., June 19th. Show dad how much he means to you with a home-made, hand painted magnet for only five dollars per person.  For reservations call 540.326.4060 or visit Salamander’s website for more information on all Salamander Resort Father’s Day Weekend activities.

So maybe he can complain about the gifts you made with your bare hands…How about a multi-course meal made by professional chefs.

This Sunday June 19th, make reservations for Father’s Day Lunch at Co Co. Sala beginning at 11a.m. and indulge in a multi-course brunch with delectable dishes like the crispy creole crabcakes, grown-up bacon grilled cheese, or steak & eggs flatbread, to name a few. Experience Chef Tiptur’s Prix Fixe Menu for only 26 dollars per person or, if you prefer, A la Carte Brunch Menu will also be served on Father’s Day. Visit the Co Co. Sala at Union Market or their F Street Boutique for an array of chocolates.

Nothing Beats Quality Time?  We spoke too soon.

This Saturday, June 18th, add some whiskey to your quality time with dad and join the complimentary whiskey tasting while doing some last-minute Father’s Day shopping at Shinola D.C. (1631 14th Street NW), where a local mixologist will be serving drinks from 1 to 5p.m.  Sunday, June 19th you can also stop by Filson on 14th from 2 to 6p.m. for a complimentary whiskey tasting featuring local spirits distillery Catoctin Creek.  The Virginia spirit brand’s President and Master Distiller Becky Harris will be in-store to give a special toast to DMV dads.

Still not drunk?  Take him over to the Columbia Room and there will be more cocktails.

Show dad he’s how much he means to you with the VIP cocktail experience at Columbia Room’s Tasting Room (124 Blagden Alley NW).  Show him just how good the famous craft cocktail bar’s seasonal three- or five-course cocktails and snacks are for 75 or 100 dollars per person. Book your visit online or call 202.316.9396 for more info.

Now that he’s drunk…

Sunday, June 19th go out on the town with dad at D.C.’s retro-inspired nightclub Soundcheck (1420 K Street NW) to hear world-renowned DJ duo Prok & Fitch. Doors open at 10pm and tickets are available for 15 dollars at www.soundcheckdc.com or call 202.789.5429 for more info.

Send him to get a manly manicure, (just don’t mention the exfoliating sugar scrub or he might get scared off).

Treat your dad to a manly manicure and pedicure at Arlington’s newly opened COATROOM Nails (850 N. Randolph Street). The 42 dollar Manly Mani & Pedi Combo includes an aromatherapy-infused soak, shea butter bomb and exfoliating sugar scrub.  To make his appointment, go online at www.coatroomnails.com or call 703.717.5007 for more details.

Everybody loves a full body massage.  Everybody.
