Celebration of Civic Spirit

by Public User Archive

Each year’s “Celebration” honors an extraordinary individual or organization whose vision and work truly define what civic spirit is all about – giving of ourselves to help our neighbors and entire communities. This year, we will present the 2009 Civic Spirit Award to The Morris & Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation. Calvin Cafritz, President and CEO of The Morris & Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation will accept this award. Through his well-known commitment to philanthropy and the Foundation’s generosity, Calvin not only has perpetuated his family’s legacy, but has lifted-up the region through the Cafritz Foundation’s unwavering support for charities and causes – safety-net groups among them — that touch our lives each day.

In keeping with our theme of recognizing extraordinary individuals, at this year’s event we will celebrate and introduce the 12th Annual Linowes Leadership Awards, named for the late Washington-area philanthropist and civic leader R. Robert Linowes. These special awards, which have become a Washington tradition, will be presented to four “unsung heroes” in our community.
