Election season is quickly approaching and as Washington buzzes in anticipation, Rock the Vote is urging young people to head to the polls in November.

On June 23, the nonprofit and nonpartisan organization teamed up with TOMS, a popular shoe company, for a reception to announce its plans to inspire young voters this year.

The event was held on the rooftop of The Hepburn, a new luxury apartment building located on Connecticut Ave, NW.

There, guests sipped on sangria, admired the view of our nation’s capital and had the opportunity to register to vote.

Alex Padilla, California’s secretary of state, Joanna Rosholm, press secretary to First Lady Michelle Obama, David Litt from Funny or Die and former speechwriter to President Obama, and Tom Tarantino, head of Government Affairs for Twitter, were all in attendance, among many other notable guests.

Everyone at the reception received a pair of TOMS Election Collection shoes, which featured donkeys and elephants –symbols of the Democratic and Republican parties.

Since 1990, Rock the Vote’s mission has been to encourage political activity among the millennial generation and uses pop culture, music, art and technology to reach its target audience.
