Set in Salzburg, Austria in the months leading up to World War II, the musical follows the story of the rebellious novice Maria who leaves the abbey to govern the rambunctious Von Trapp children. As she wins the family over with music and kindness, the peaceful world of the Von Trapps’ is interrupted by the encroaching Nazi regime.

Winner of numerous Tony awards in 1959, including Best Musical and Best Actress for the original lead, Mary Martin, The Sound Of Music returned to Broadway in 1998 for a 15-month run.
