Learn how to get your tech on at Digital Capital Week
By Anna Jacoby
Calling all District citizens, tech aficionados, and computer enthusiasts! Are you ready for DCWEEK? Digital Capital Week (DCWEEK) starts Friday, June 11 and runs through Saturday, June 20. It is a 10-day festival in Washington, DC focused on technology, innovation and all things digital in our nation’s capital. The week kicks off Friday night with the DCWEEK opening party at Long View Gallery where designers, developers, artists, musicians, hardware hackers, and more will gather to drink, watch robots, dancers, and live art, listen to music, and mingle the night away. This techie bash is expected to hold 2,000 people in almost unlimited space; the indoor/outdoor venue includes an art gallery, alley, and sculpture garden with lots of room to play.
The week’s festivities include a wide variety of events such as the FIFA World Cup viewing party in Dupont Circle, yoga and stress relief exercises for computer users, barbeques, opportunities to see speakers, attended computer group meetings, conferences, robotics viewings, a picnic on the mall, and much more. The festival comes to an end with the DCWEEK closing party at 9:30 Club, where attendees will see several bands perform, interactive “paint with light” art installations, a comedy set by Desi Alexander, and on-stage painting. This tech fest is full of exciting things to discover about the vast digital world.
The week long event is the brainchild of Peter Corbett (twitter) & the iStrategyLabs team, Frank Gruber (twitter) and Jen Consalvo (twitter) of Shiny Heart Ventures.
