Get in the spirit of Mardi Gras at the newly opened Cajun Experience in Dupont Circle. The fledgling chain – which already has locations in Leesburg and Purcellville, Va. – offers NOLA-styled cuisine, as well as a full range of Abita beers and festive drinks like the ever-popular Hurricane.

Starters include fried okra served ranch dressing, crawfish mac ‘n’ cheese infused with classic Cajun spices and crawfish pie.

There are also ten po boys made with New Orleans’ Leidenheimer bread and filled with your pick of blackened shrimp, fried catfish, fried oyster and more. Desserts include Café du Monde beignets topped with an avalanche of powdered sugar and bread pudding, which is similarly dressed.

Beads and half-remembered stories of debauchery on Bourbon Street are not included with any of the dishes or drinks, but that doesn’t mean you can’t bring your own.
